In a new interview about Lord of Rings Online Update 2, Turbine says they're very happy about the current state of the game. The switch to a hybrid model (Free or VIP) brought them more than two million subscribers in North America alone. Read the full interview we did with Turbine about Update 2 and their plans down the road.

buffed: As we already know, new Instances und territories are planned. Could you summarize what content the players have to expect coming weeks? When exactly will the patch be available?

Turbine: This update includes a new story arc with five new instances – Northcotton Farm and Stoneheight for small fellowships (3 players), Lost Temple and Glacier Fortress for full fellowships (6 players), and Ost Dunhoth for a raid (12 players). We also have updates to the make the Volume 2 Epic quest more solo friendly (including 3 skirmishes), 100 new quests and new quest lines in Evendim for levels 30-40, and the new Volume 3, Book 3 Epic quest line.

buffed: Besides the content update – are there any changes planned for the Gameplay-system, do you implement new features?

Turbine: We have updates to both Legendary Items and Crafting! Legendary items have been changed to give you more choice in customizing your item, along with new Unique relics. Crafting has a new tutorial, locking quests have been removed between crafting tiers, and Metalsmiths and Tailors have new stat options for different items.

buffed: What are the plans for the rest of the year? Are there any information on the release of the Isengard-expansion?

Turbine: Rise of Isengard is coming later this year, and we’ll have a great deal to share as we move into the Summer.

buffed: Keyword: Legendary Weapons. You have changed the system. How is the feedback? Are you satisfied with the changes? Is something else planned?

Turbine: We are very satisfied with the system. Overall we achieved the primary goal of giving players more control in customizing their items. You can expect to see new Unique relics continue to come out as we refine the system and get more feedback!

buffed: The switch to the hybrid model happened a few months ago. How pleased are you with the progression of the game since then? Was it the right choice to go free2play? Could it have been implemented any better?

Turbine: The transition to our hybrid model (Free or VIP) has been outstanding, and attracted over 2 million players to register in North America alone. Players have the choice to pay and play as they wish, and enjoy Middle-earth! Of course we can always improve the model – we’re constantly learning and adjusting.
